China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) is raising shipping charges in the Asia-Europe, Asia-Mediterranean, and Asia-U.S. trade markets from January 2012.

Rates per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for the Far East-Europe and Far East-Mediterranean lanes will go up by $225 effective January 1, while rates for a 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU) for the Asia-western and eastern seaboards of the U.S. loops will be $400 higher.

CSCL’s cargo service for the Asia and Central America loops will reflect rates that are steeper by $560 per FEU, and for Asia and the Middle East lanes by $150 per FEU.

With the arrival of the Chinese New Year, almost all the routes are facing a rise in shipping demand. Average utilization rates for European routes recently reached 90 percent, those for the US eastern coast registered 95 percent, and those for the US western coast 85 percent, the company said.
