CLARK International Airport Corp (CIAC) is eyeing construction of an P8-billion budget terminal in Clark Freeport in Pampanga, north of Manila, next year under the Aquino administration’s Public-Private Partnership project.
CIAC president and chief executive Victor Jose Luciano said the terminal, to be patterned after the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, will occupy 40 hectares and have a maximum annual capacity of 10 million passengers.
“We’re looking at a two-airport system with both Manila and Clark being interlinked,” said Luciano. “The development of Clark will be more for a niche market without getting any traffic out of Manila.”
In addition, CIAC is looking to construct a P120-million city air terminal in TriNoma, Centris or Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City to complement the budget terminal. The facility will allow passengers to check in before being transported to Clark by shuttle buses.
A private partner is expected put up counterpart funding for the city terminal. The winning bidder will build and manage the terminal and operate the shuttle buses.
