France-based CMA CGM has announced the appointment of Michel Sirat to group chief financial officer.

He was appointed group CFO of the third biggest container shipping line in the world on June 7, 2011 and reports directly to Rodolphe Saade, executive officer of CMA CGM Group.

Sirat launched his career at the French Treasury Department and then moved to the International Monetary Fund, in Washington D.C. He later joined the energy multinational Suez Group as group senior vice president for finance, tax and treasury.

This was followed by postings as senior executive vice president of Suez Energy NA in Houston, Texas; CEO of Suez Energy NA; and senior executive director for the trading and portfolio management division of GDF Suez in Brussels, in charge of managing commodity risk and enhancing asset value.

Sirat holds degrees from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris, the Ecole Centrale of Paris and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Strasbourg, France.
