CMA CGM reiterated on August 20 that the imposition of the peak season surcharge (PSS) on the Asia-Europe trade lane will push through in early September after it was moved from the original early August.
In a statement, the Marseilles-headquartered container shipping line said that the peak season surcharge on the westbound Asia-Europe trade lane will begin from September 1 following its postponement in August 1.
A surcharge of US$300 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) will be levied on the westbound Europe/Mediterranean/Black Sea/North Africa loops for dry cargo, OOG’s, paying empties, break-bulk cargo, and reefer cargo.
The PSS covers cargo originating from all Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia, and Bangladesh, and destined for all Northern European ports (including UK and the full range from Portugal to Russia), the West Mediterranean, Adriatic, East Mediterranean, Black Sea, and North Africa.
Meanwhile France’s biggest box carrier also announced a rate restoration program to be implemented on the Europe-Asia eastbound trade routes from October.
A rate increase of $200 per TEU and per 40-foot container will take effect from October 1 on the Europe/West Mediterranean-Asia loops.
The rate hike covers shipments from North Europe (including UK and the full range from Russia to Portugal) and the West Mediterranean ports of Spain, France Mediterranean, and Italy that are bound for all Asian ports, including Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Shipments included are dry cargo, OOG’s, paying empties, break-bulk cargo, and reefer cargo.
