State port operator PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II) has signed a memo of understanding (MOU) with state power agency PT. PLN to upgrade the electrical supply system at the Tanjung Priok seaport, the biggest and busiest port in Indonesia, and Pelindo II’s other ports.

The MOU was signed by Nur Pamudji, PLN’s president director, and R.J. Lino, Pelindo II’s president director.

The onshore power supply system (OPSS) will provide electrical services for ships docked at the ports so that they won’t need to turn on the auxiliary engine or generator during the loading and unloading of cargo, Pelindo II said in a press release.

Under the agreement, the two firms will undertake studies on further cooperation in providing electrical services to customers located in the ports managed by Pelindo II, according to a report by The Jakarta Post.

They will then form a joint team to prepare the partnership details, coordinate with the authorities, and prepare the legal infrastructure of the cooperative agreement.

The companies are expected to sign the official cooperation agreement next month.
