Contract logistics company DHL Supply Chain opened a new 17,000-square-meter-warehouse in Cimanggis, Indonesia, which it said is part of its EUR40 million (US$52 million) investment in the country over the next few years.

DHL Supply Chain said the Cimanggis warehouse is the first of its planned investments in Indonesia. By 2015, it intends to increase its transportation fleet by over 100 percent from its current fleet of 370 vehicles, raise the number of its staff by over 70 percent from some 2,250 employees at present, and add 60 percent more warehouse space to its current network of 164 warehouses.

“Indonesia is a key focus for us,” said Oscar de Bok, DHL Supply Chain CEO for South and Southeast Asia. “Industry experts estimate average growth this year in Indonesia will be a regional high of 6.3% and within the supply chain industry we actually expect to see double digit growth here. This is why we are proactively investing to ensure we have the right infrastructure and people to support this.”

The facility is the third built-to-suit (BTS) warehouse by the company in the country, with specialty features tailored for customers in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. The two others are in Cikarang and Cililitan.

It complements DHL Supply Chain’s other specialist warehouses in the Jabodetabek area—in Cikarang, Kedunghalang, Marunda, Sunter, Sentul and Cililitan—which support the automotive, retail, and high-technology sectors.
