DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight unit of Deutsche Post DHL, has contracted CSafe, LLC, a heat-and-cool container provider for the temperature-sensitive air freight market, to help expand its services for temperature-controlled shipments.

“Customers can now choose from a wider range of special air freight containers; this being one of DHL Global Forwarding’s continued efforts to provide innovative solutions for packaging-based cold chain services,” DHL Global Forwarding said in a statement.

“We are the first European-based freight forwarder to sign this type of leasing agreement with CSafe thus expanding our services for Life Sciences customers,” said Laura Ackermann, global head of Life Sciences Operations, Air Freight, DHL Global Forwarding.

Since its launch in 2008, CSafe’s heat-and-cool container has made thousands of shipments. During flight, the temperature is maintained within the range +4°C to +25°C by means of rechargeable batteries—whether ambient temperatures are normal or extreme, i.e., ranging from -30°C to +49°C.

To ensure the quality and security of health-care shipments, DHL offers a number of integrated solutions, including special container packaging, positioning and reverse logistics, and internal and external control of temperature data via a centrally managed IT platform.
