The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started three road projects worth a total of P3 billion aimed at enhancing economic development and the peace and order situation in Mindanao.
The projects are under the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project and cover a total of 67.9 kilometers (km) of road in Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte.
It covers 11 bridges as well as drainage and slope protection components, said Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, citing a report from the department’s Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations and Technical Services.
One of the projects is the 23.73-km PR-06, Alicia-Malangas Road costing P1.32 billion. Located in Zamboanga Sibugay, it includes the construction of a concrete road with required width of 6.70 meter-carriageway, eight bridges, slope protection along flood-prone areas and mountainous sections, culverts, road signage, and pavement markings.
Another project in Zamboanga Sibugay is the 29.10-kilometer PR-09, Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road. With a cost of P989.16 million, it involves construction of a concrete road with slope protection, improvement of drainage, installation of road signage, and application of pavement markings.
In Zamboanga del Norte, DPWH has begun work on the 15.07-kilometer PR-07, Tampilisan-Sandayong Road. The P623.26-million project entails road concreting, three bridge components, slope protection, drainage, and road signage and markings.
“If weather permits, we will be able to complete and open these vital road networks in Mindanao by 2021,” Villar said in a statement.
The construction of Alicia-Malangas Road, Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road, and Tampilisan-Sandayong Road is funded by an Asian Development Bank.
