ALL commercial flights to and from Zamboanga City were suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) from 9 am to 9 pm on Oct. 8 because floodwaters submerged the runway at the city’s airport.
A notice to airmen signed by CAAP director general William Hotchkiss III prohibited all inbound and outbound flights from Zamboanga International Airport’s flooded runway 09/27 following heavy rains in the region.
The next advisory would be issued at 7 am Oct. 9 if flights need to be suspended on that day, CAAP said.
CAAP advised passengers affected by the suspension to contact their respective airlines for flight schedules.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines and its low-cost rival Cebu Pacific Air had not yet released any advisories as of press time.
The Department of Transportation and Communications had cancelled 10 flights to and from the airport as a result of the flooding.
