Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd will  impose more freight rate hikes on Asia service routes beginning next month.

A general rate increase (GRI) will be levied on all cargoes and container types from East Asia, the Indian Sub-continent, and the Middle East to the east coast of South America.

The GRI of US$500 per TEU (20-foot-equivalent unit) will take effect from September 15, 2013.

On the East Asia-Mexico/west coast of Central America/west coast of South America trade lane, a rate hike of $500 per TEU will also be enforced from September 15.

Rates will similarly be raised from East Asia to destinations in the Caribbean, east coast of Central America, and Panama effective September 15.

The price hike is $700 per 20-foot container and $1,000 per 40-foot container.

The rates for East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Indian Sub-continent are likewise set to go up from September 1 by $200 per TEU.

Meanwhile, rates from the Indian Sub-continent to Mexico, Central America, west coast of South America, Caribbean, and Panama will increase effective September 1 by $300 per TEU.

In an earlier announcement, Hapag-Lloyd said a peak season surcharge of $500 per TEU is set to be implemented from Northeast Asia to Australia. The PSS will be in effect from September 1.
