Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd announced it will increase rates for all kinds of cargoes and containers on the North Europe-Far East sling from April.
In an official release, the Hamburg-based carrier said it is raising by US$100 per TEU (20-foot-equivalent unit) the rates for all shipments from North Europe and the Mediterranean to East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Middle East, effective April 1, 2013.
North Europe is comprised of the Northwest Continent, UK, Scandinavia, Baltic, and the European ports of Russia. The Mediterranean covers the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Black Sea, and North Africa.
East Asia consists of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Macao, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, and the Russian Pacific Ports of Vladivostok and Vostochny.
The Indian Subcontinent includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, while the Middle East encompasses the Persian Gulf and Red Sea destinations.
Recently, Hapag-Lloyd also announced rate hikes for all dry commodities from British Columbia, Canada, to destinations in East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Middle East. The rate hikes are $160 per TEU and $200 per 40-foot container.
The new rates take effect from April 1.
