Hamburg-based Hapag-Lloyd released a series of announcements on its upcoming rate increases on the East Asia trade lanes as part of its rate recovery program.

The freight rate hikes all take effect on April 15, the German ocean carrier said in recent statements.

Hapag-Lloyd said it will increase rates for all cargo and container types from East Asia (excluding Japan) and Oceania to the Indian Subcontinent by US$400 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

The Indian Subcontinent includes the ports in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India.

General rate increases will also be implemented from East Asia to all Canada and U.S. destinations. Covered are all dry, reefer, flat rack, and open-top containers.

For U.S.- and Canada-bound shipments, rate hikes are $320 per TEU, $400 per 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU), $450 per 40-foot high-cube container, and $506 per 45-foot container.

East Asia covers Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, and Russian Pacific Coast provinces.

General rate increases for the East Asia-Caribbean and Panama routes are $560 per TEU and $800 per FEU.

From East Asia to Mexico, Central America, and West Coast of South America, rates for all cargo and all container types will go up by $500 per TEU.
