Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), the second cargo handler at Hong Kong International Airport, recorded an 11 percent rise in throughput for April 2013 year-over-year.
AAT handled 64,684 tonnes of cargo last month. Of this, exports represented 45,578 tonnes, an increase of 12 percent over the same period in 2012. Import volume was 18,342 tonnes, up 9 percent, while transshipment cargo expanded 65 percent to 764 tonnes.
For the first four months of 2013, the company processed 238,618 tonnes of cargo, a growth of 5 percent from January-April 2012 figures. Export tonnage was 163,049 tonnes, rising 6 percent against the same period last year. Import tonnage totaled 71,563 tonnes, representing a 2 percent growth. Transshipments surged 99 percent to 4,006 tonnes.
“Judging from the cargo traffic figures for the last four months, AAT is cautiously optimistic about the outlook for the year, although the macro-economic outlook remains weak,” said general manager Chan Yee Lin.
