Cathay Pacific Airways has appointed its current chief executive, John Slosar, as chairman of the airline from March 2014, succeeding Christopher Pratt.

Ivan Chu, currently chief operating officer of the Hong Kong-based company, will take over the chief executive post of Slosar.

Slosar will also assume chairmanship of John Swire & Sons (H.K.), Swire Pacific, Swire Properties, and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co.

Pratt joined the Swire group in 1978 and will have been chairman of the group in Hong Kong and chairman of Cathay Pacific Airways for eight years on his retirement.

Slosar, 57, joined Swire in 1980. He was appointed managing director of Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co. in 1996, managing director of Swire Beverages in 1998, and chief operating officer of Cathay Pacific Airways in 2007.

He became chief executive in 2011 and is also chairman of Swire Beverages and of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines. Slosar has degrees from Columbia University in the United States and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.

Chu, 51, joined Cathay Pacific Airways in 1984 and has worked with the company in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia. He is also chairman of AHK Air Hong Kong.

Chu holds a master’s degree in commerce from the University of New South Wales in Australia and a bachelor’s degree in social science from the University of Hong Kong.
