Box traffic at the Port of Hong Kong contracted 4.3 percent in November 2012 year-over-year to 1.87 million 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs), Port Authority statistics showed.

Container throughput last month at Kwai Tsing terminals slid 0.3 percent to 1.41 million TEUs, while that at other terminals fell 14.9 percent to 460,000 TEUs.

From January to November this year, cargo volume dipped 4.5 percent to 21.26 million TEUs compared to the first 11 months of 2011. Container throughput at Kwai Tsing terminals rose 0.7 percent to 16.03 million TEUs for the period, but containers processed at other terminals declined 17.6 percent to 5.23 million TEUs.
