Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), a cargo terminal operator at Hong Kong International Airport, announced a tonnage throughput of 65,929 tonnes for March 2012, a 4 percent growth over the same period last year.
Export cargo registered 47,270 tonnes, a growth of 5 percent over the same month last year. Import cargo volume for March was 18,114 tonnes, up 4 percent year-on-year. Transshipment cargo volume was 545 tonnes, a drop of 21 percent when compared against the corresponding period in 2011.
Cumulative export tonnage from January to March 2012 was 113,665 tonnes, a slight growth of 0.1 percent against the same period last year. Total import tonnage for the first quarter was 53,181 tonnes, representing a 5 percent year-on-year growth. Transshipment cargo volume since the beginning of the year was 1,553 tonnes, a reduction of 19 percent against the same period last year.
“The tonnage in March 2012 saw slight improvements. Nevertheless, we are cautious of the challenges ahead,” said Kenneth Yeung, AAT general manager for corporate development.
