KOREA MARINE Transport Co., Ltd. (KMTC) has launched a new twice-weekly service to the Japanese outports of Shibushi, Onahama and Hososhima.

KMTC is a Korea-based shipping company with strength in servicing various Japan outports via transhipments in Busan. The carrier’s Japan service has expanded over the years and provided more logistics opportunities for the Philippines.

“Japan’s trucking cost is very high, so it is definitely much cheaper to use the ports near their warehouse,” KMTC Phils Corp president Michael Jang told PortCalls.

“For Chinese and Korean logistics companies, it has already been a major trend for many years. With our additional Japan outport services, KMTC believes our customers in Philippines can enjoy the same logistics benefits by saving on huge trucking costs,” Jang said.

The new service began with M/V Louds Islands departed the Port of Manila on June 15. Departure is every Tuesday and Saturday, and transit time is 9 days for Shibushi, 9 days for Onahama, and 10 days for Hososhima.

KMTC also announced it will deploy vessels that will call at Moji, Imari and Nagasaki, improving connectivity between Manila and these Japanese outports.

For the Saturday sailing, the closing time is 2400H Thursday for dry cargo and 1200H Friday for refrigerated cargo. For the Tuesday sailing, the closing time is 2400H Sunday for dry cargo and 1200H Monday for reefer cargo.
