Maersk Line, the world’s biggest shipping container line, announced it will implement general rate increases (GRIs) on its Far East-United States service effective May 2012.

In a statement on March 30, Maersk said the GRIs, to take effect on May 1, are meant to allow the Copenhagen-based box ship “to continue offering our broad portfolio of services and high level of reliability.”

For the Far East Asia-West Coast of US trade lane, the rate hikes are US$400 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU), $500 per 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU), $565 per 40-foot high-cube container, and $630 per 45-foot high-cube box.

The Far East Asia-East Coast of US loop will see GRIs of $560 per TEU, $700 per FEU, $790 per 40-foot high-cube container, and $885 per 45-foot high-cube container.
