The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) remained the Philippines’s top container port, cornering 33% or 1.25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of the total volume in the first nine months of the year, based on latest data from the Philippine Ports Authority.
South Harbor was in second spot with 689,386 TEUs or 18% of the total.
North Harbor, now known as North Port, followed with 635,938 TEUs or a share of 17%. North Port also cornered the most number of containers in the domestic trade with 41% of the total or 1.51 million TEUs.
Davao Port was ranked fourth after it handled 254,807 TEUs or 7% of the aggregate, down 5.25% from last year’s figure.
From January to September, container traffic went up 5.08% to 3.830 million TEUs from 3.64 million TEUs year-on-year.
Foreign boxes grew 2.98% to 2.311 million TEUs from 2.245 million TEUs last year. Import boxes represented 1.197 million TEUs of the total foreign boxes, up 6.97% from 1.119 million TEUs last year. Export boxes accounted for 1.114 million TEUs, down 1% from 1.125 million TEUs last year.
Domestic containers reached 1.518 million TEUs, up 8.44% from last year’s 1.400 million TEUs.
