The OCEAN Alliance has announced the launch this year of the third phase of its further refinements to the product mix.

CMA CGM said it signed January 16 with alliance partners COSCO Shipping, Evergreen, and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) the launch of Ocean Alliance Day 3 Product, which starts in April 2019.

With the fierce competition in the industry, the alliance developed the third phase of its product offering “to improve our overall competitive position while meeting the evolving needs of the global supply chain in today’s increasingly volatile market environment,” OOCL said in a statement.

Since the Day One products were introduced in 2017, the OCEAN Alliance members have constantly set high quality standards and maintained very competitive schedule reliability levels while offering the most comprehensive network as possible, it said.

For instance, service enhancements made this year in the Trans-Pacific trade include broadening market coverage in South China and Southeast Asia with a new direct call to Taipei on the PSW service as well as Cai Mep on the ECX1 to meet customer needs.

“Our express service to the U.S. Gulf Coast has also been expanded with the addition of the new GCC2 product, offering greater schedule flexibility to customers and their supply chains,” said OOCL.

Customers will also find marked improvements in the Asia-Europe network. With the addition of the new Loop 7 product, the increased service frequency between Asia and North Europe will allow for greater loading flexibility, confidence on service commitments, as well as room for growth through the extended network coverage.

CMA CGM said that for the Day 3 Product, the alliance will be bringing to its clients an optimized offer through the use of around 330 container ships, 111 of which will be operated by the CMA CGM, as well as 38 services and an estimated carrying capacity of around 3.8 million TEUs.

The evolution of the product Ocean Alliance, it added, is marked by:

  • The largest service offer on the Transpacific trade with 19 services
  • A strengthened offer between Asia and Europe with the addition of a seventh service
  • A large offer between Asia and the Mediterranean with 4 services
  • 2 Transatlantic services linking North Europe to the East Coast of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico
  • The only alliance offering 4 services between Asia and the Middle East
  • 2 Asia-Red Sea services

Rodolphe Saadé, chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group, stated: “This new agreement with our Asian partners will enable us to propose to our customers an unrivaled and competitive service offering.”
