Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) plans to apply a general rate increase (GRI) on its Southeast Asia-Australia lanes in October, the Hong Kong-based ship operator said in a statement.

Freight rates for traffic from Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indian Subcontinent and Middle East) to Australia will be increased by US$300 per 20-foot-equivalent unit (TEU).

OOCL, one of the world’s largest integrated container transportation, logistics and terminal companies, said the GRI is part of the next phase of its revenue-recovery program and takes effect October 1, 2011. The new rate is “to ensure the continued provision of high- quality services and sufficient capacity to cater to our customer requirements,” it added.
