The new Karuhatan Interchange on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link Segment 10 is now open, providing a faster way to get to C3 in Caloocan City from MacArthur Highway, Valenzuela City and surrounding areas, and vice versa.

“The new interchange, with entry and exit toll plazas, is expected to further decongest traffic at the Balintawak southbound since it will provide better access and improve connectivity of our expressways to and from the MacArthur Highway and other local roads,” NLEX Corporation president and general manager Luigi Bautista said in a statement.

Bautista noted that traffic at Balintawak southbound has been lessened by more than 100,000 vehicles daily as motorists bound for Manila Port now use newly opened NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 to travel faster.

Opened last February 28, NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 is the 5.65-kilometer, six-lane elevated expressway traversing the cities of Valenzuela, Malabon, and Caloocan City (up to the new Caloocan Interchange on C3). It will also include the 2.6-kilometer section from C3 to R10 in Navotas City that is currently under construction.

“We are rushing the completion of the C3-R10 section by December this year to immediately address the congestion being experienced in the area especially at peak hours,” Bautista said.

NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 is now providing motorists, especially cargo trucks, an alternative access road in order to decongest the usual traffic chokepoints such as Balintawak, A. Bonifacio Avenue, and MacArthur Highway. It has cut the usual one-hour travel time between Karuhatan, Valenzuela City and C3 Road, Caloocan City to about five minutes, NLEX Corp. noted.

A month after NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 opened, traffic volume on this segment has steadily risen, as the segment serves more than 200,000 vehicles from both northbound and southbound directions.
