North Port operator Manila North Harbour Port, Inc (MNHPI) recently awarded contracts worth P1.055 billion to private contractors in support of the port’s modernization program.
FF Cruz, a major Philippine Ports Authority contractor, bagged the contract for the ropax terminal to be located at the former facility of Aboitiz Transport System at Pier 4. The P490-million project requires increasing berthing depth to 10 meters. Target completion is October this year.
The P314-million marine slipway and Pier 16 retrofitting project was awarded to Seaborne Construction Specialist Co. For completion in January 2013, the project involves pier retrofitting and crane rails retrofitting to support installation of new cranes set to arrive in July.
Home Construction bagged the power center project which calls for construction of two sub-stations, the first to supply power to Pier 10 and the marine slipway, including quay cranes, the operation center and the engineering building. The second sub-station will supply power to Piers 2 to Pier 8, including the passenger terminal building, and shoreline power for Piers 4 and 6. The project is eyed for completed by November.
The contract to develop the 2,000-seating capacity passenger terminal building was awarded to R-II Builders, Inc. R-II Builders is owned by the Romero family which also controls Harbour Centre Port Terminal, Inc, a joint venture partner in MNHPI.
R-II Builders is also set to develop North Port’s container yard, for completion in August 2013. In addition, it will construct the North Port operations center which will centralize all MNHPI operations and documentation requirements. The new operations center will open in January 2013.
This year, North Port is looking to handle 800,000 twenty-equivalent units, up 6% from last year’s 756,000 TEUs.
