THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) last week seized an assortment of misdeclared cargoes worth P40 million.
Customs Deputy Commissioner for Enforcement Horacio Suansing issued a warrant of seizure and detention and a forfeiture order for 550 bags of fresh onions loaded onto two 40-footers. The consignee, Mountain Glory Agri Sales, could not produce a Department of Agriculture permit.
Also seized were one 40-footer consigned to Emerald Rose Trading containing a Toyota vehicle, Mini Cooper right hand-drive vehicles and used tires, and a shipment from Winluck Trading-Grand Platinum with fake Louis Vuitton bags, and Prada shirts, shoes and sandals.
The Enforcement and Security Service-Port of Manila (ESS-POM) District Office also intercepted at the Eva Macapagal Domestic Terminal three Korean-made luxury vehicles worth at least P5 million.
Ramon Policarpio, commander of the ESS-POM District Office, said the seized automobiles (two units of Hyundai Sta. Fe sports-utility vehicles and one Hyundai Grand Starex van) were shipped from Davao.
The seizure was recommended following failure of the consignee to present BOC-issued certificates of payment.
