The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking for contractors to bid for the P552.867-million development project at Sangley Point, which is part of the Philippine government’s efforts to reduce air traffic congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a project advisory, DOTr said the Sangley Airport Development Project intends to alleviate air overcrowding at the country’s main air hub by transferring general aviation to Sangley Point in San Antonio, Cavite.

Phase 1 of the project includes rehabilitation of the existing 2.4-kilometer runway; construction of the ramp and drainage system; construction of four hangars with a floor area of 1,600 square meters each; and building of an 800-square-meter passenger terminal building with offices, vehicular parking area, and other facilities.

The pre-bid conference for the project is on January 5, while deadline for submission and opening of bid documents is on Jan 23.

Earlier, DOTr-attached Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said one of the government’s long-term plans is to transform Sangley Point into a general aviation airport where all non-commercial flights at NAIA will be transferred. In 2013, operations of small planes on food and fish runs were transferred to Sangley.
