The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has awarded to the joint venture of MAC Builders and Ulticon Builders, Inc. the P883.493 million contract to upgrade the general cargo berth of Davao-Sasa port.

The two construction companies were informed by PPA general manager Atty. Jay Daniel Santiago in a notice of award dated February 14.

The project involves the upgrading of the 8,954-square-meter general cargo berth and port lighting system.

Ulticon was established in 1993 primarily to engage in the general construction business, involving development, construction, repair, rehabilitation, and other works on roads and highways, piers and bridges, and irrigation projects, as well as building construction.

Ormoc, Leyte-based MAC Builders, meanwhile, undertakes transport infrastructure projects.

For the first nine months of 2018, Davao-Sasa port handled 3.161 million metric tons (mt) of cargo, 0.4% lower than the 3.175 million mt handled in the same period in 2017.

Meanwhile, Chelsea Logistics Holdings, Corp. also submitted to PPA in August 2018 an P11.5-billion unsolicited proposal to rehabilitate and develop Davao-Sasa port.

Earlier, Santiago said the port authority had allotted P2 billion in 2018 for the rehabilitation of Davao-Sasa port’s container yard.
