Philippine Airlines (PAL) will begin operating its Manila-Sapporo route on September 10, 2018 to provide nonstop air service to the popular Japanese destination.
Sapporo, the capital of the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, is known for its skiing activities and annual Sapporo Snow Festival featuring enormous ice sculptures.
The six-hour thrice-weekly nonstop service (Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays) using PAL’s brand-new A321neo will bring to five the carrier’s total number of destinations in Japan.
From Manila, PAL flies to Fukuoka, Haikou, Nagoya, Osaka (Kansai), and Tokyo (via Narita and Haneda). From Cebu, the airline operates flights to Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo. There are also daily PAL flights between Taipei and Osaka. All these services translate to a total of 89 weekly PAL flights between the Philippines and Japan, making the flag carrier the only local airline with the largest route network in Japan.
Recently, PAL officials flew to Sapporo to meet with key local officials and pledged mutual cooperation to ensure the success of the new service, the airline said.
