Philippine Airlines BoardCarmen K. Tan, wife of Philippine Airlines, Inc. (PAL) chairman and chief operating officer Dr. Lucio Tan, Sr., has been appointed vice chairman of the Board of Directors.

The appointment of Mrs. Tan was approved by the board and disclosed by parent company PAL Holdings, Inc. on December 11.

She takes over the position previously held by son Lucio Tan, Jr., who passed away on November 11.

The board also approved the resignation last month of director Atty. Estelito P. Mendoza.

“With some amount of trepidation but reflecting on this carefully, I have decided to tender my resignation, as I do so by this letter, with immediate effect,” Mendoza said in a letter of resignation to Tan, Sr. dated November 20.

Last December 6, PAL had already confirmed reports on the resignation last November of Mendoza, as well as of board member Amando Tetangco, Jr.

On October 28, PAL Holdings president Gilbert Santa Maria had resigned and was replaced by Tan, Jr. Santa Maria remains president of the operating company, PAL.

Last October, too, other key officials of the flag carrier also resigned, including senior vice president for planning and commercial group Angelito Alvarez, senior vice president for legal and general counsel Siegfred Mison, and chief commercial group adviser Datuk Bernard Francis.
