Philippine Airlines (PAL) will be adding three new domestic routes as it ramps up its operations at Clark International Airport (CRK).

“PAL is offering Clark to Davao on February 1, and Puerto Princesa and Busuanga service on March 26,” PAL senior vice president for airline operations Ismael Augusto Gozon said during the send-off ceremony held for its Clark-Cebu inaugural flight.

PAL’s Clark-Cebu flights are its third operations since launching the daily Caticlan route on December 16, 2016 and operating new international flights to Incheon in South Korea on January 1 this year.

Gozon expressed optimism that PAL’s operations at CRK would continue to grow in the coming months.

“PAL’s flight is a new route that is part of our on-going expansion outside Manila and we will continue to develop new routes for Clark as well as [make it] a secondary hub of operations in Luzon,” Gozon said.

Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) president and chief executive officer Alexander Cauguiran said PAL’s operation at CRK is essential to ease congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, which already reached its capacity with 37 million passengers last year.

“Clark Airport offers convenience and comfort to passengers especially those coming from the provinces of Northern and Central Luzon,” Cauguiran said.

“President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive is to develop Clark―the premier airport of the North,” Cauguiran added, stressing that CIAC’s vision is aligned with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade’s efforts to develop CRK with the support of the private sector.

Other flagship projects the Duterte administration is set to pursue include a railway system from Manila to Clark, the Subic-Clark railway, and the Clark Green City.
