As part of its intra-Asia growth strategy, freight forwarder Panalpina has launched three direct less-than-containerload (LCL) services to give its Asian key hub in Singapore a boost.

The new weekly services sail from Haiphong (Vietnam), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Cebu (Philippines) to Singapore through its in-house carrier Pantainer Express Line.

Customers can ship from Phnom Penh within three days, from Haiphong within six days, and from Cebu within nine days without having to wait to fill a full container. “Panalpina can offer a reliable alternative to existing full containerload (FCL) and air freight services in these trades,” Panalpina said in a press statement on September 23, 2011.

The new LCL services are part of Panalpina’s long-term strategy to grow business on key Asia trade lanes, especially on the Far East westbound, trans-Pacific eastbound, intra-Asia, Asia to Latin America, and Asia to Middle East trade, the company added.

“Intra-Asia plays a pivotal role in our global LCL network and in the group’s growth strategy,” said Carsten Meyer, global head of ocean freight LCL at Panalpina. “We are constantly adding new services through our in-house carrier Pantainer Express Line in this fast-growing market to simplify and extend access for our customers.”
