The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) recently intercepted a package containing marijuana valued at P102,900 at the Central Mail Exchange Center warehouse in Pasay City.

Four vacuum-sealed plastic pouches containing 343 grams of cannabis dried leaves, an illegal substance more popularly known as marijuana, were discovered in the parcel upon examination by teams from the customs anti-illegal drugs task force, Ninoy Aquino International Airport customs police, NAIA Collection District III, and NAIA inter-agency task group. The parcel arrived from Canada with samples of sweaters.

Subsequent tests at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency laboratory revealed positive reactions to marijuana.

Under Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, marijuana is classified as a dangerous drug.

Deandre Travis Johnson Cruz, who was identified as the claimant of the seized parcel, was brought to the Pasay City Hall of Justice for investigation.

Charges will be filed against the suspect for violation of provisions of R.A. No. 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
