The Philippine government last week signed with Vietnam an amended air agreement, the fourth such deal since the open skies policy took effect this year.
Under the agreement, seat entitlements between Manila and Ho Chi Minh would increase 32% or by 650 seats per week to 2,650 from the current 2,000 seats per week.
The two countries also agreed on unlimited rights from all points in the Philippines, except Manila, as well as to all points in Vietnam except Ho Chi Minh.
After Executive Order No. 29 or the open skies policy was signed by President Benigno Aquino III, the Philippines and Malaysia inked a deal in June involving the rise in seat entitlement to 2,520 from 2,300 weekly.
A month after, another agreement was signed with Sri Lanka which increased flight entitlements from two a week to four from Manila to Colombo and back.
In August, a deal with Papua New Guinea was inked for additional seat entitlement of 450 a week to 600 a week. Another pact involving 1,500 seats weekly from the Philippines, except Manila, is under negotiations.
The Philippines is enticing Japan and Taiwan to agree to additional entitlements.
