Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently seized two units of used Porsche cars, Porsche Boxster S and Panamera 4S with a total street value of Ph10 million (Porsche Boxster S )and P18 million (Porsche Panamera 4S).

The two cara arrived in the country last August 5, 2017 through Malaysian Airlines consigned to Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati, Inc., allegedly intended to be used for training purposes.

But based on the reply letter dated July 9, 2018 of Atty. Sonia S. Tapales, Chief of Import Regulations Division of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), regarding the query of District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan, the two used cars violated E.O. 156 which prohibits the importation of used motor vehicles. Further, it was found that the consignee has no authority to import used motor vehicles which is still required even if the intention is for training purpose of any school.

Only used vehicles of a returning resident or immigrant, official of the Diplomatic Corps, and special purpose vehicles can have exemptions like fire trucks, ambulances, funeral hearses, crane lorries, boom trucks, tanker trucks, reefers, street sweepers, mixers, garbage compactors and special purpose trucks / vehicles.

With the basis provided by DTI, the regulating agency on used motor vehicles, Port of NAIA issued Warrant of Seizure and Detention docketed as Seizure Identification No. 078-2018 against the subject motor vehicles for violation of E.O. 156 in relation to the violations of Section 117 (Regulated Importation and Exportation) and Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) of R.A. 10863 (Customs Modernization Tariff Act).
