THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) recently appointed new members of the Professional Board for Customs Brokers (PRBCB) after the term of the old board lapsed.

Atty. Ferdinand Nague replaced Constantino Calica as PRBCB chairman. Nague was also a member of the PRBCB for some years before his appointment.

Joining him in the new board are Silver Montalbo, a senior executive at Sharp Philippines, Inc, and Atty. Ping Bartolome, a former Bureau of Customs collector.

The three, sworn into office last week, have a three-year tenure based on provisions of the Republic Act (RA) 9280 or the Customs Brokers Act of 2004.

A key concern of the new board is the crafting of implementing rules and regulations of RA 9853. The law, which amended RA 9280, now expressly allows corporations and brokerage houses to lodge customs entries as long as they engage the services of at least one licensed customs broker.
