Santa Maria quits as chief of PAL Holdings, stays on at PAL Inc

Philippine AirlinesGilbert Santa Maria has resigned as president and director of PAL Holdings, Inc., the holding company of airline PAL Inc, just three months after his appointment, citing personal reasons. He remains PAL Inc’s president.

PAL Holdings, Inc., in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on October 29, said its Board of Directors in a meeting on October 28 approved Santa Maria’s resignation as president.

A BPO veteran who was handpicked for the post by PAL chairman and chief executive officer Dr. Lucio Tan, Santa Maria was elected as president, chief operating officer, and director of the flag carrier on July 29, replacing Jaime Bautista who retired last June.

Lucio K. Tan, Jr. was elected during the same board meeting to replace Santa Maria as PAL Holdings president.

Appointed as Corporate Governance Committee members were Johnip G. Cua and Joseph T. Chua, who was also elected as director.

Early this month, other key officials of the flag carrier also resigned, including senior vice president for planning and commercial group Angelito Alvarez, senior vice president for legal and general counsel Siegfred Mison, and chief commercial group adviser Datuk Bernard Francis.
