The Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP) has inducted its new set of officers for 2014, as the organization disclosed plans to expand its presence in Mindanao.

SCMAP is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and hopes to add a chapter in Cagayan de Oro, a busy port in Northern Mindanao. Last August, SCMAP opened a Cebu chapter.

Arnel Gamboa, president of SCMAP, said the association’s current focus is on policies such as Republic Act No. 8794, or the Anti-Overloading Law, enacted early last year; the Metro Manila Development Authority’s extension of the modified uniform truck ban; and Manila City’s daytime truck ban ordinance.

Trucking is one of the top costs in transporting consumer goods.

Apart from Gamboa, other SCMAP officers for 2014 are Corazon Curay (XVC Logistics), vice-president; Max Yap (Oriental Motolite), secretary; Angelito Nepomuceno (Integrated Commissary), treasurer; Henry Batallones (SSI Schaefer), auditor; Jess Sarmiento (Smart Communications), PRO; and Manuel Onrejas, Jr. (Fast Logistics); Rolly Lazo (Johnson&Johnson); Reyna Cano (PLDT); and Donny Quintos (The Red Systems Company), directors.

SCMAP’s various committees will be chaired by the following: Al Lagera, Academe; Annette Camangon, Special Projects; Elsie Oafallas, Finance; Ana Rose Ochoa, Membership; Carlo Curay, Communications; and Henrik Batallones, Marketing.

SCMAP also introduced a new committee, the Green Logistics, which will be chaired by Avelino Acedo.

Gamboa said the introduction of the Green Logistics committee is very relevant due to effects of climate change, and since other countries are also “leaning towards the friendly way of doing activities with regards to nature” such using hybrid fuel and electricity.
