Semiconductor and electronics manufacturer Texas Instruments Philippines, Inc. (TIPI) plans to invest US$10 million in a new distribution center at Clark Freeport Zone (CFZ).

TIPI president and managing director Mohammad Yunus, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the company’s planned facility on August 27, said the current product distribution center is already overflowing and lacks space to do an efficient job of distribution, necessitating the new construction.

Yunus explained that the first TIPI manufacturing facility in the Philippines was only envisioned to export 1.5 billion semiconductor units each quarter.

In the second quarter of 2015, TIPI shipped out 1.5 billion semiconductor units, and for the third quarter it expects to ship about two billion units.

“We are currently looking at two billion units, which could be a new record for any Texas Instruments site anywhere in the world,” Yunus noted.

TIPI has already invested $1 billion in its manufacturing facilities in Clark.

Yunus said the proposed product distribution center is designed to be a state-of-the-art storage retrieval system with high levels of automation and the highest level of workplace ergonomics.

The company, the country’s biggest semiconductor and electronics manufacturer, was recently recognized as both the country’s top exporter and outstanding employer for 2015 by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

PEZA director general Lilia De Lima at the groundbreaking rites cited Clark Development Corp. (CDC) president Arthur Tugade for making the CFZ one of the country’s strongest investment and promotions destinations.

“I’ve been in this job for more than 20 years as PEZA director general and I’ve seen presidents of CDC come and go, but the current one is the best,” De Lima said.

As of June 2015, employment at CFZ was recorded at close to 80,000 in 781 registered enterprises, including some government agencies.
