U.S. Lines (USL) announced general rate increases (GRIs) for shipments from Asia to the United States and Canada.
The GRIs will take effect from May 21, USL said in a media statement.
From Asia to the U.S. West Coast and Canada’s west coast ports, the rate increases are US$320 per 20-foot standard container, open top, and flat rack; $400 per 40-foot standard container, open top, and flat rack; $450 per 40-foot high-cube container; and $506 per 45-foot high-cube container.
From Asia to the U.S. inland points via the U.S. West Coast and Canada’s west coast, the rates will be higher by $480 per 20-foot standard container, open top, and flat rack; $600 per 40-foot standard container, open top, and flat rack; $675 per 40-foot high-cube container; and $760 per 45-foot high-cube container.
The same GRIs will be imposed on shipments from Asia to the U.S. East Coast ports and reverse inland points via the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast.
In an earlier release, U.S. Lines said it was postponing its GRIs for the westbound trade of U.S. to Asia to May 1 from April 21.
The new rates for cargo originating from the East Coast—excluding the Gulf port—and moving via East Coast ports and inland points apply to general commodities but excluding waste paper, metal and plastic scrap, and refrigerated cargoes.
The rates will be boosted by $160 per 20-foot standard container, $200 per 40-foot standard container, $200 per 40-foot high-cube container, and $200 per 45-foot high-cube container.
