European freight forwarder Weiss-Röhlig has opened its first two branches in Vietnam as it moves to expand its Asian operations.

The two branches, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, offer services in air and sea freight, project cargo, and break bulk, said Weiss-Röhlig, a partnership between Gebrüder Weiss of Lauterach, Austria, and Röhlig Logistics of Bremen, Germany.

“The sites in northern and southern Vietnam are an ideal addition to our network on the South China Sea,” said Joe Lässer, air and global development director at Gebrüder Weiss.

He sees the Vietnamese economy continuing to rally in the coming years, driven by favorable production costs. “After some turbulent years in which transport orders have fluctuated wildly, the situation has stabilized considerably in recent times,” he said.

“The demand for industrial machinery, spare parts, highly specialized goods, and niche products makes Vietnam a very interesting market for companies from the western industrialized countries,” said Cristian Predan, head of Weiss-Röhlig Vietnam.

The company now has its own subsidiaries in 10 Asian countries. It has 39 locations in China, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.
