THE Subic Bay, Clark and Bataan freeports recently launched the Enhanced Automated Cargo Transfer System (e-Acts) aimed at facilitating cargo transfer to the freeports from the Port of Manila (POM), Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Designed to curb smuggling and cargo diversion, the measure puts a stop to abuse of the import privilege by some unscrupulous freeport zone export producers.
“The use of e-Acts as mandated by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) will ensure fast, safe, synchronized and secure cargo transit from NAIA, POM and MICT to business enterprises in the freeports of Subic, Clark and Bataan,” Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) said in a statement.
“Our value-added service providers E-Konek Pilipinas and InterCommerce Network Services have provided all the support needed for us to shift from the manual system to the automated system, and to upgrade to e-Acts,” SBMA added.
The system provides a more economical and simpler process of documenting and processing of clearances, as well as the transfer and admission of foreign merchandise from ports of discharge.
It is expected to help stamp out corruption in import transactions and cut overhead cost among freeport locators by allowing the immediate delivery and use of transit goods through the use of technology.
