Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reported that cargo throughput in the first half of 2012 remained unchanged at 1.9 million tonnes compared to the same period last year.

But cargo tonnage continued to grow for a second consecutive month in June, with HKIA handling 334,000 tonnes of cargo, up 4.1 percent from a year ago.

The growth in cargo throughput last month was primarily due to an 8 percent year-on-year growth in imports, an HKIA statement released July 22 said. Cargo throughput to and from Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions for the month.

On a rolling 12-month basis, cargo volume declined slightly by 3.5 percent to 3.9 million tonnes.
