PHILIPPINE exports grew 46.1% in September to $5.314 billion from $3.638 billion in the same month last year, according to latest data from the National Statistics Office.

This brought exports for the first nine months of the year to $38.298 billion, up 38.5% from $27.649 billion year on year.

Electronic products remained the country’s biggest export commodity, accounting for 65.5% of the September total or $3.478 billion.

Articles of apparel and clothing accessories followed with receipts of $146.59 million or a market share of 2.8%, an increase of 27.9% from $114.62 million recorded in September 2009.

Comprising 2.1% of the total were woodcrafts and furniture with revenues reaching $113.66 million from $88.53 million in 2009.

The top destination for Philippine exports in September was Singapore. The Lion City accounted for 24.2% of total shipments valued at $1.283 billion.

Japan followed with $765.85 million or a 14.4% share.

The People’s Republic of China came in third, buying $669.74 million of Philippine products, an improvement of 296.1% from $169.08 million last year. Exports to China accounted for 12.6% of the total.
