Ocean carriers Hanjin Shipping and Evergreen Line plan to reduce capacity on their joint China-Europe service for the fourth quarter “in response to the seasonal drop in demand in the trade.”
The weekly service is dubbed CUS or China-UK Express by South Korea’s Hanjin and CEM or China-Europe-Mediterranean service by Taiwan’s Evergreen Line.
From October to December, the 13 planned voyages on the CUS/CEM sling will be cut down to 10, with the three skipped voyages representing a 23 percent capacity reduction.
Both carriers are considering more cuts on this service.
In addition, Hanjin said it pruned its Asia-North Europe routes from nine to eight—a capacity cut of 13 percent—from mid-October as part of its winter program.
