Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) plans to impose general rate increases on the Asia-Europe trade lane effective December.

The Geneva-based carrier said the rate hikes will be applicable to all cargoes from Asia bound for the Mediterranean (including North Africa), the Black Sea, North Europe, and Scandinavia/Baltic effective December 15.

The additional rates are US$600 per 20-foot-equivalent unit and EUR500 per TEU (for Syria).

Meanwhile, Cosco Container Lines is making an emergency bunker adjustment (EBA) for all cargoes from Asia to South Africa and to South America’s east coast.

Effective November 15, the EBA for freight from Asia to South Africa will be $600 per TEU and $1,200 per 40-foot-equivalent unit (FEU). Asia shipments destined for South America’s east coast will have an EBA of $1,900 per TEU and $3,800 per FEU.

German ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd, on the other hand, announced revisions to its Europe-Far East sling effective this month.

It said the Europe-Asia Loop 4 service will add a Jeddah eastbound call and put in an additional ship to ensure schedule reliability.

The change will take effect starting with the Hyundai Together departing from Le Havre on November 12.

The revised port rotation will be Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Le Havre, Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Jeddah, Singapore, and Yantian.
