FedEx Trade Networks, the global freight forwarding arm of FedEx Corp., has opened an office in Bangkok, its first in Thailand, in anticipation of the continued growth of the country’s logistics market.
The freight forwarding industry in Thailand has increased over the past couple of years. The market was valued at US$2 billion in 2011, and is expected to be worth $3.3 billion by 2015, the company said in a statement.
At the same time, FedEx Trade Networks is including Thailand in its international direct priority ocean service, which currently offers the service to select U.S. destination ports from origins in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Europe. The service includes premier ocean freight forwarding, U.S. customs brokerage, final delivery, and online visibility for both less-than-container- load and full-container-load cargo.
With the new facility in Thailand, the company now has 17 freight-forwarding locations in Asia-Pacific, including in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, along with a representative office in Vietnam. In China, it runs facilities in Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou.
“Launching operations in Bangkok is vital to our growth as a global service provider. Our customers are increasing their business in Thailand and need flexible, efficient freight forwarding to support their imports and exports,” said Joseph Frank, vice president of FedEx Trade Networks Asia.
