Peter Ulber, incoming CEO of Panalpina

Monika Ribar, CEO of global logistics company Panalpina for the past seven years, will step down at the end of May 2013, to be replaced by Peter Ulber, a freight forwarding specialist and former Kuehne + Nagel official.

In a statement released today, Panalpina said the change in leadership was “planned and prepared” by the board of directors and Ribar as part of the company’s ongoing succession process.

Ribar, who has been a member of the Swiss forwarding company’s management for almost 23 years, will hand over her responsibilities to Ulber on June 1.

She will focus on her non-executive managerial functions in other companies where she also serves on the boards of directors, said Rudolf Hug, chairman of the Panalpina group.

Ulber, 53, who studied at the International School of Logistics in Hamburg, Germany, held various management positions from 1985 to 2011 at Kuehne + Nagel in Europe, North America, and South America. From 2008 onwards, he was responsible for both sea freight and airfreight at Kuehne + Nagel as well as for the global sales organization. At the end of 2011, he went into business himself as cofounder and partner of the Charleston Enterprise Group.
