Total international and domestic airfreight traffic increased by 1 percent in April 2013 compared to the same month a year ago, but growth continued to be mixed across airports, with about 50 percent of the world’s top 20 airfreight hubs registering declines in volume last April, according to Airports Council International.
On a year-to-date basis, total airfreight grew 0.2 percent, while traffic over a 12-month period, from May 2012 to April 2013, increased by 0.4 percent.
Hong Kong International Airport and Memphis International Airport posted relatively strong gains in April amidst the economic uncertainty at 4.5 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively.
International freight in April increased 1.1 percent year-over-year. But year-to-date statistics showed a 0.6 percent decline, while traffic on a 12-month-rolling basis saw a 0.5 percent drop.
Meanwhile, domestic freight grew 0.9 percent in April 2013 against the same month last year. It rose 1.9 percent on a year-to-date basis and 1.4 percent on a 12-month rolling basis.
