South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that they have established a joint policy consultative body tasked to advance the expansion of local logistics players in overseas markets.

Under a recently signed formal agreement, the two ministries pledged to help the global expansion of Korean cargo owners and logistics companies, create a level-playing field, and establish multimodal logistics networks including land and sea modes of transport.

The two ministries also announced a plan to set up in 2014 a joint logistics support center that will focus solely on addressing logistics policy issues.

Headed by officials at the director-general level from both ministries, the consultative body will focus on “creating a productive working arrangement for better cooperation by keeping their channels of mutual communication open at all times,” said a MOLIT official statement.

The collaboration is regarded by the country as one of the model cases of policy coordination between different government agencies in support of industries.
