Global freight forwarder Kerry Logistics has started the construction of its Asia hub in Singapore to supply the logistics needs of shippers in southeast Asia and Australia.
“This regional logistics hub will facilitate a comprehensive range of integrated logistics services for our customers in Asia,” said Robert Tan, managing director for South Asia. “We are also incorporating ‘green’ features into the design of the building in order to reduce waste and save energy.”
The four-storey facility will occupy 34,500 square meters and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012. Its green features will include an estimated 30 percent to 35 percent energy savings through design that maximizes natural light and reduces the need for artificial light, Kerry Logistics said.
The facility will also have a rainwater-harvesting system for irrigating the surrounding landscape and plants, and an air-conditioning system that improves chiller efficiency and utilizes refrigerants with low ozone-depletion properties. The building will comply with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements, said Kerry Logistics.
