HK customsHong Kong’s and Malaysia’s customs agencies have agreed to mutually recognize their respective Authorized Economic Operator Programs (AEOs).

Hong Kong Commissioner of Customs & Excise Roy Tang signed the deal with Royal Malaysian Customs Department Director-General Khazali Ahmad at the 17th World Customs Organization Asia/Pacific Regional Heads of Customs Administrations Conference in Kuala Lumpur on March 17.

Under the pact, Hong Kong companies accredited as AEOs can enjoy clearance facilitation, such as reduced examination or prioritized clearance for goods exported to Malaysia, reported the Hong Kong’s Information Services Department.

Hong Kong will also provide the same facilitative arrangements to companies certified by Malaysia.

This is the sixth arrangement Hong Kong has concluded with other customs agencies after China, India, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.

An AEO is a party involved in the international movement of goods in whatever function that has been approved by or on behalf of a national Customs administration as complying with the World Customs Organization or equivalent supply chain security standards.
